In Anantapur the hills are highly degraded but after Hindupur towards Bangalore there is a drastic change in vegetation.

Eastern Ghats Expedition

Eastern Ghats is a mountainous range close to the eastern shore of peninsular India. It consists of one of the old mountains. It is under tremendous pressure from various sectors - mining of resources, livelihoods of the tribals, urbanisation, coffee and tea estates, plantations for commercial / industrial needs, mega hydroelectric projects, encroachment, degradation and deforestation, etc. There is a need for conservation and sustainability of the diverse flora and fauna. The degradation is also leading to climate change and drought in the immediate neighbourhood. In the last 2 decades, I have travelled and visited the parts of the eastern ghats for various studies. I am one of the founders and acting vice-president of Greens Alliance for Conservation of Eastern Ghats (GrACE). Recently along with a team of conservationists and environmentalists visited parts of BRT Hills (Kotagiri), Bandipur Tiger Reserve, Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Ooty, Doddabetta (the confluence points of eastern and western ghats), as well the eastern ghats - Kolli Hills, Arunachalam Hill, Erramalai, Nallamalai, etc. A distance of 2400 kms covered from 2nd to 9th September 2017.

In this blog presenting the observations in pictures from my 20 years of expeditions in the eastern ghats.
